| 7-27-09 This afternoon we received a call from the county dispatch stating that the Highland Township Police were requesting us to be placed on stand by for an overturned oil tanker, the driver was trapped, there was a pole and electric lines involved, and the tank was leaking. Once the county haz-mat and trucking company officials arrived on scene, we got our heads together. Haz-mat said the tank had to be off loaded prior to being uprighted. The company brought in pumps and a truck to transfer the load. The truck had two compartments, the rear compartment was the one that was damaged. The front compartment was intact and not leaking. The rear compartment was able to be pumped fairly easily, however the front tank was not going so well. At this point, the company officials and the Null's crew met with the haz-mat team. We again offered to set the truck up with the product on. After some discussion as to how the incident needed to be handled, we were given the go ahead to upright the truck with the front tank still loaded. We pulled up to the rear of the truck, swung off to the side, rigged the four winches to the truck and uprighted it. Once uprighted, the front end was swung out into the roadway to allow for hook up and to be towed to our Cochranville facility. |
