| 5-28-10 This morning we were called by PSP Avondale to respond to Route 1 northbound at the Route 10 off ramp for an accident involving a loaded overturned tractor and trailer with entrapment. We immediately dispatched 04 and 09 along with a recovery supervisor. Upon arrival our crew found rescue personnel working to extricate the entrapped driver from the cab of the overturned tractor that was pulling a dump trailer which was loaded with scrap. Our personnel worked to assist rescue workers to remove the driver. The recovery supervisor performed a walk around assessment of the scene. During the walk around a large oil/fuel spill was found. We immediately dispatched a spill response unit to the scene to work to contain the spill. We also dispatched our skid steer loader, a backhoe, and a Prentice grapple loader to the scene. After the driver was extricated and PSP were completed with their investigation we were given the go ahead to begin the clean-up process. The spill team worked to clean up the spill which had been contained and prevented from entering the storm drain at the bottom of the ramp. 09 was placed at the back of the trailer, 04 was placed at the front of the unit to upright the front of the trailer and the tractor. The unit was rigged to be uprighted and uprighted. Once upright the skid steer, back hoe, and Prentice grapple loader all worked to reload the load of scrap into the trailer. Our crew worked to remove the large pieces of scrap from a corn field next to the scene along with the road bank. Once all the scrap was reloaded the truck and trailer were moved from the immediate area and separated to be towed from the accident scene to Null's of Cochranville. All of the truck and trailer parts were loaded into a pick-up truck for transport back to Null's. The spill response team continued to clean the absorbents off of the roadway. The accident scene was restored to pre accident conditions. The scene was then turned over to PennDot to setup temporary barrels in place of the damaged guard rail. |
