| 1-16-10 This morning we received a call from one of our customers requesting us to respond to Route 41 and Route 34 in Delaware. We immediately dispatched #04 and a support truck. We arrived on scene to find that a VW Beetle had pulled out in front of the tractor and trailer. The tractor trailer hit the car, loosing its steering. The truck then went up a five foot embankment striking several tree branches and knocking one tree completely over. We met with the Delaware State Police and were advised that there would be an extended wait for the reconstruction team. We performed our walk around, we found the tractor had major damage. The landing gear on the trailer was knocked off on the drivers side, the trailer was resting against a tree. The unit could not be taken back out the route it went in without having to cut several large tree branches, along with dealing with the embankment. After performing our walk around we decide the best plan of attack was to separate the truck and trailer and take them out through the field that the truck ended up in. At that point we dispatched #09 to the scene to hold the trailer while the tractor was pulled out and a new tractor placed. We stood by for approximately 2 hours prior to being given the go ahead to proceed with the recovery. We called B&F Towing from New Castle, DE due to the fact that the truck was being held by DSP for a DOT inspection, they responded with a tractor and a heavy duty. 09 was rigged to lift the nose of the trailer and hold it. 04 was hooked to the tractor, the truck and trailer were separated. The trailer was re powered. All units were then winched back out to the roadway by B&F. Once on the roadway all loose debris was secured. The truck and trailer were then transported to B&F's yard for the DSP hold. THANKS TO THE TEAM FROM B&F FOR ALL OF THEIR HELP! |
